2. Do you find it rude if you’re talking to somebody and they proceed to text
continuously on their cell phone?
3. If you had to come up with a list of five etiquette rules for texting, what
would they be?
1. I think that texting in social situations is a good and bad thing. For example, when you're out with people, if you know them or not, you can ease through an awkward tension by taking your phone out and texting friends about your 'awks' situation. However, when texting during a party, dinner, or any social event, i think that it is not a good idea to be texting. You are cutting yourself off human interaction and missing out on all the fun events beyond the screen of your phone. Sooner or later, people will notice you do nothing but text on your phone and won't invite you. Ultimately, texting can be useful in awkward moments, or when youre bored, but not when you're supposed to be mingling. After all, when you interact with people, you can get new contacts to text!
2. I do find it rude when I'm trynig to talk to somebody and they pull out their phone and start texting. Hello! I'm trying to talk to you and it seems like you don't care very much. When I try to talk to somebody, I want them to understand and listen to my situation, not somebody else's on their phone. People should not text when talking to others, as that can be seen as rude and disrespectful.
3. My 5 etiquette rules for texting are:
- DO NOT TEXT WHEN YOU ARE HAVING AN ACTUAL CONVERSATION TO SOMEBODY FACE TO FACE!
- If somebody texts you while in conversation, that person can wait 2 minutes and then you can text them back.
- You can check your phone ocassionally to see if there are any important messages, and the time, but other than that, you shouldn't be on your phone while out socializing.
- If somebody starts speaking to you while you are texting, you should put down your phone and speak to that person as well.
- If the other person starts texting, that is not a welcome sign saying "you may now text", just wait for them, and you can continue to text if you know that they would like to finish the conversation with you.
I agree with you totally.
